Particle characterization

The particle size distribution and the surface quality of the particles of a substance influence numerous physical, chemical and application properties. SYNLAB Products uses different measurement methods depending on the problem and the size scales:

The particle sizes between 0.01 µm and 3500 µm are measured and evaluated after dispersion. For the optimal dispersion we have different methods at our disposal (dry or in a liquid medium). 

A sieve analysis to determine the particle size distribution is also possible.

  • Characterization of topographical particle properties (size, shape, etc.)
  • Element composition and element distribution by scan or mapping
  • The inner surface is a parameter that is a decisive quality characteristic for catalysts or adsorbers, for example.
  • Our measuring method: BET surface (multi-layer adsorption model according to Brunauer, Emmet and Teller)

Other physical key figures / parameters that we can determine for you:

  • Color number (e.g. Hazen, Gardner color number, etc.)
  • Density of liquids and solids
  • Bulk density and stamp density
  • Calorific value (Hs) and calorific value (Hi)
  • Conductivity
  • Dynamic and kinematic viscosity
  • Melting and boiling point determination
