Fodder and animal nutrition
Fodder is of elementary importance within agriculture. A large proportion of the primary vegetable production in Germany is used directly (green feed or conserved green feed) or after processing (e.g. cereal, rapeseed meal as compound feed) to supply livestock with nutrients and energy.
The available fodder must be used ideally to ensure that the livestock receive beneficial and ecologically sound nutrition. In order to provide the livestock with the nutrition they need, it is essential to possess detailed knowledge of the contents and qualities of the fodder, as well as to be aware of physiological aspects of the animals’ diets.
